"I beg you, my brilliant, most beautiful of the mortal cities" It is the verses dedicated by the poet Pindar in Agrigento. Founded in 581 BC, Agrigento, which gave birth to the philosopher Empedocles, was one of the most prosperous cities of Magna Grecia, an important commercial and cultural center. Empedocles you have the idea to cut the Rupe Atenea to let the north wind to cool the city.
In February, at the astonishing flowering almond trees in the area, the Almond Blossom Festival and the International Folklore Festival, are two characteristic manifestations of Sicily.
The famous Valley of the Temples in Agrigento, the site of the Greek colony of Akragas, is one of the most famous archaeological sites in the world.
